What is Digital Literacy? and Why is it an Issue?
Being comfortable and confident in using internet-connected devices is a key skill in today's digital world.
Access to reliable technology and the internet is essential for everything from job hunting and healthcare to staying connected with your community and finding critical resources. The majority of information and services are now created, stored, and accessed electronically. Without a device and consistent internet access, fully participating and thriving in modern society becomes nearly impossible.
Why doesn't everyone have access to internet?
In some communities, and many rural areas, the internet service providers have not run cable to individuals' houses. Could be because it is a new development, or could be because the cost to create service for that individual would be more expensive to create than not. Some people don't have internet because they cannot afford the service. Some do not get service because they don't have a device that would use it, whether they don't want a device because they don't know how to use it, or they can't affprd a device.
